Mexican food can vary depending on the region of its origination. Some of the best Mexican cuisine can be found in Mexico City which is located in the Central Region.
Mole Poblano is a famous dish and is composed of turkey that is braised in a sauce of chili and chocolate. Northern Mexican Cuisine is composed of simple foods that contain a large amount of fat and starches. The Yankee-Mexican dishes are made up of tortillas, tacos, enchiladas, and rice and beans and are very popular in restaurants outside of Mexico. The coastal area cooks depend on using fresh ingredients in their dishes and use seafood and tropical fruits as the main ingredients. Some of the popular flavoring agents in Mexican cuisine are cumin, garlic, lemon, and coriander.
Mexican cuisine is often offered in large portions in the United States and it could be very easy to eat a full day’s worth of calories in just one meal especially when you start out with those chips and salsa they serve not to mention the quacamole you order and the Margarita as well. We have not even gotten to the actual meal. Most of the Mexican dishes are fried with lard and are served with cheese toppings. A healthier choice would be a baked dish like enchiladas, tamales, or burritos. It also might be wise to order a la carte to prevent overeating. Ordering combination platters that can be heavy on the sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and fried food should also be avoided.
Mexican cuisine tends to be made up of numerous spices and tends to be very spicy. Salsa is used as a condiment to every Mexican meal and corn is known to be one of the staples in all Mexican dishes.
